Most photographers work on certain topics that they feel comfortable with and are familiar with. But the world of photography is so diverse that it is worth trying out other genres. This course is intended to provide an introduction to this. You will have the opportunity to discover different photographic themes for yourself, of course with help from your instructor.
What you can expect
You can expect six lessons of intensive online photo workshop. Detailed course material with many sample photos of the different genres will inspire you to create your own images. For each assignment you will take your own pictures, which your instructor will then discuss in detail and suggest improvements.
Lesson 1: Landscapes
In the first lesson, we will immediately dedicate ourselves to one of the great photographic themes, landscape photography. We look at the challenges and the possibilities of landscape photography. Light and image composition are the most important ingredients for landscape images and are therefore the focus of this lesson.
Lesson 2: Sports and Action
This lesson is all about sports and action. In sports and action photography, more so than in other genres, shooting technique is important. Therefore we will take a look at some important camera settings for successful action photos. And don’t worry: You don’t have to visit a top sports event to complete your assignment for this lesson.
Lesson 3: Architecture
The third lesson is entirely devoted to the topic of architecture. Of course, topics like perspective and converging lines are on the agenda and we need to adress some technical aspects of architecture photography as well.
Lesson 4: Still life / object photography
By it‘s very nature still life photography usually takes place in a studio. However, there is no need for a full blown professional studio. A makeshift tabletop studio on your kitchen table or in a corner of a bedroom will do. Artificial lighting on the other hand is essential and can be a challenge. The possible subjects for still life photography are endless.
Lesson 5: Portrait
Portrait photography has been a classic subject since the beginning of photography. Images of people intrigue us probably more than any other photo genre. This lesson is mainly about taking portraits outdoors with available light. A studio and an elaborate lighting system are therefore not necessary for completing these assignments..
Lesson 6: Close up photography
In the 6th lesson we will have a close look at our subjects. The world of small things holds a strong fascination for many photographers. And indeed, many objects appear quite unusual and novel when viewed up close. Exciting motifs for close-up photography can be found everywhere. And it doesn’t have to be just flowers!
